In the past year, the Working Party has welcomed 16 new members, adding to our diverse community of 166 individuals representing 47 countries.

IHN Symposium at Athens, Greece; 11-12th April 2024

  • Leadership of the working party (Mary, Gopal & Shruthi) participated and presented in the Symposium.
  • Mary Townsend: Implementing the Individual Risk Assessment Blood Donor Deferral Paradigm in the US.
  • Gopal Patidar: ISBT Imputability Project
  • Shruthi Narayan: Six years of Human Factors – Insights from SHOT UK.

Activities during the period

Projects Updates:

  • Traceability Project: This is a collaborative project with IHN and SHOT. Survey distributed among the WP members and other routes. Responses received, and analysis is ongoing. Three abstracts from the project results were submitted for ISBT Milan conference. One abstract selected for Oral presentation while two selected for poster presented.
  • AI in Haemovigilance Project: This is another collaborative project with IHN and SHOT. Survey being finalised, aiming for distribution in end April-May 2025.
  • Imputability Project: Monthly meetings are going on, 9 meetings so far, progress made with initial draft of the scoring matrix prepared, once the scoring matrix is agreed, the group plan to validate it using anonymised clinical cases.
  • Paediatric TACO: This is a collaboration between the haemovigilance and paediatric working parties at ISBT, IHN and SHOT. Brainstorming meetings with core group members is ongoing with identification of potential stakeholders, draft proposal and plan- 2 meetings held to date.
