We are looking forward to co-hosting our June congress in the beautiful city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the Malaysian Society of Blood Transfusion (MBTS). As well all the amazing science, interactive learning and networking at the congress, you can experience everything KL has to offer, including culture, architecture, cuisine, warm weather, parks and much more!
The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) is located in the heart of KL. Its architectural design emphasizes open spaces and natural light, providing a calm, professional atmosphere ideal for large-scale international gatherings such as the ISBT congress. The venue directly overlooks the 50-acre KLCC Park, offering delegates a rare green sanctuary in a central location, and the iconic Petronas towers are an impressive landmark just steps from the entrance. KLCC is physically linked to a network of luxury hotels, shops, and fine dining via climate-controlled walkways with everything needed for learning, networking and fun within easy reach!

Getting there
KLCC is well connected with easy access from KL airport by rail, you can find more information here. Remember you can also have a discount on your ticket, find your discount here.

The congress starts on Saturday June 20, with an ‘’Asian Day’’ with a scientific programme developed by MBTS with input from surrounding counties, covering topics of special interest within the region. Members of the ISBT Working parties will be getting together for their business meetings that run over Saturday and Sunday.
Also on Sunday, is the ISBT Academy Day with educational sessions for anyone learning for the first time, updating knowledge or looking for an accessible way to get into topic areas outside their own speciality. The main scientific programme, including parallel sessions with dedicated streams that cover the complete transfusion chain, takes place from Monday to Wednesday. Each session has a theme and begins with an invited speaker followed by oral presentations selected from high scoring abstract submissions – this year we had over 1300 abstracts to select from, so expect some amazing science. A workshop stream runs alongside the lecture sessions allowing for a more informal and interactive approach to learning and sharing experience. Workshops such as SRI, Immunohaematology and Implementaion science are learning and networking oportunities for young professionals, adding to the wonderful networking events organised by the YPC. Plenary sessions also feature of the programme throughout the congress days. This congress also has an additional plenary award session with ground-breaking lectures by the Presidential Award recipient Martin Olsson and accompanying speakers – click here for more details.
Social events
The opening ceremony will be held on Sunday June 21 and includes welcome speeches, award presentations leading to the exhibition welcome reception and opening of the trade exhibition. This is a great opportunity to explore the exhibition hall, visit the booths and discover the latest developments in transfusion technology while meeting up with friends and colleagues and enjoying some local culinary treats. Early risers can start their Tuesday with a rather more relaxed exercise session than the traditional ‘fun run’! This time we are holding a mass yoga session for an oasis of calm within the busy congress schedule!
The congress party will be held on Wednesday evening at the Mandarin Oriental hotel, a short walk from the KLCC so we can spend the maximum time enjoying a sit-down dinner, followed by some legendry ISBT partying and dancing!

Get involved
Selected sessions will be interactive, so you can use the ISBT App to answer polls and post questions to the speakers or moderators. These interactive sessions also include the workshop stream providing an informal way to discuss case studies with audience participation. The poster session will be held on Monday, June 22 and it’s a great opportunity to discover new research and chat with like-minded colleagues and friends.
The session has been extended by 30 mins this year to take in a ‘’poster walk’’. This where allocated experts from ISBT working parties lead a group of delegates through a section of the poster hall, giving poster presenters the opportunity to give a dynamic summary of their poster and to answer questions from the group. A lively and informal way to view posters in your area of interest and network at the same time.
Throughout the congress interactive workshops are organised by ISBT committees and working parties, such as the ever popular ‘’ethics in action’’ and ‘immunohaematology case studies & blood group bingo!’’ sessions. A great chance to join in, ask questions and exchange views with fellow professionals.
