Meet the new members of the Young Professionals Council

Late last year we conducted interviews for new members of the Young Professional Council. After careful consideration, we selected 5 new members - get to know them a little better below!

Amira Z. Badawy - Eastern Mediterranean

Dr. Amira Z. Badawy, MD, is a Lecturer and Consultant of Clinical Pathology in the Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine Division, Faculty of Medicine, Menoufia University, Egypt. She is actively involved in research and academic activities, with a strong passion for teaching Hematopathology and Transfusion Medicine to undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, residents, and Medical Laboratory Scientists. Her research interests include Clinical Transfusion, Blood Components, Therapeutic Apheresis, and Hemotherapy.

She is a member of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) and an active member of the ISBT Clinical Transfusion Working Party (CTWP), contributing to the Hemoglobinopathies and Clinical Apheresis subgroups. Dr. Badawy was an invited speaker at the ISBT Congress in Milan 2025, where she presented her research on cold-stored platelets with additive solution in oncology patients, and she was awarded the prestigious Harold Gunson Fellowship by ISBT.

Kriti Batni - South East Asia

Kriti Batni is a transfusion medicine physician based in India. She completed her MD in Transfusion Medicine from Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, and is currently working as a Postdoctoral fellow, Transplant Immunology, in the Department of Transfusion Medicine at Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. Her clinical work spans a wide spectrum of practices, including apheresis, immunohematology, and paediatric transfusion medicine. In addition to clinical transfusion medicine, she is actively involved in research, guideline-based academic writing, and collaborative projects, with a particular interest in improving access to safe and appropriate blood components in resource-limited settings. Driven by a strong belief in collaboration and mentorship, Kriti is passionate about engaging young professionals and fostering academic exchange within the global transfusion community. Outside of work, she is a trained Hindustani classical singer, enjoys travel, exploring new places, and curling up with a good book and hot filter coffee.

Suhasini Sil - South East Asia

Suhasini graduated with Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Transfusion Medicine and serves as Senior Resident in the Department of Transfusion Medicine at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. Her role focusses on clinical responsibilities including donor counselling, therapeutic apheresis procedures, stem cell harvests, advanced immunohematology workups, massive transfusion protocols, and hemovigilance, while contributing academically through seminars, CMEs, conferences and academic teaching. Suhasini has received the Global Investigator Award at LMCE KSLM 2025, recognizing her outstanding contributions to transfusion medicine research, along with multiple prizes for her presentation in National conferences. Suhasini is deeply involved in research with numerous peer-reviewed publications in prestigious international journals, complemented by her active role as a reviewer for leading Transfusion medicine and Hematology publications.

She is an active member of Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB), Indian Society of Transfusion Medicine (ISTM), International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology (ISBTI), Indian Society of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (ISHBT), and Indian Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ISHI). Her hobbies include trekking mountains, snorkelling in coral reefs, cooking different cuisines, and exploring new countries, discovering harmony through nature.
