New members of the ISBT Board
ISBT Board of Directors
At the General Assembly in Barcelona in June, we welcomed members to the ISBT Board of Directors (BoD). It was also time to say a huge thank you to the outgoing board members, for all their support and hard work on behalf of ISBT... especially leading the society successfully through some challenging years during the pandemic.
How many Board of Directors are there?
The ISBT Board of Directors, comprises Directors who have a specific role (President, President Elect, Past President, two Vice Presidents, Treasurer) and these can be from any ISBT region, along with eight Regional Directors to ensure that the board has representation from all WHO regions and an understanding of the issues concerning each of the regions. All except the President Elect, President and Past President are elected for a 4-year term. The succession from President Elect to President and then Past President (over 6 years) also ensures that the BoD retains the wealth of experience needed to steer the society.

How often does voting happen? Every two years leading up to the ISBT International congress, elections are held for half of the positions, to bring new perspectives to the BoD and leadership opportunities for dedicated ISBT members. However, not all Directors are replaced at the time to give some continuity to the BoD as they work through complex strategic issues that can span over several years. Who was elected in 2024? In the 2024 elections, the ISBT membership elected a new President Elect, Lin Fung (Australia), Treasurer, Martin Smid (The Netherlands), Vice President Cynthia So-Osman (The Netherlands) , and Regional Directors for Africa Marion Vermeulen (South Africa), Europe Mickey Koh (UK), South-East Asia Satyam Arora (India) and Western Pacific Yanli Ji (China) to the board – congratulations to all and thank you to all who voted!
