ISBT Awards and Prizes 2026

Nominations are now open for 2026 ISBT Awards and Prizes to be presented at the 39th International Congress of the ISBT in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These awards are designed to recognise excellence, innovation, and leadership in transfusion science and medicine and to celebrate individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions through research, clinical practice, education, or service.

Do you fit the criteria for these awards, or know anyone you would like to put forward? Now is the time to encourage someone to apply or to make an application yourself for the Jean Julliard Prize or Ravi Reddy Award, or if you are an ISBT member, to nominate a colleague for the ISBT Presidential or Judith Chapman Awards.

The deadline for applications/nominations for all of these awards is December 14, 2025.

Nominations for the ISBT Presidential Award are made directly to the Foundation Transfusion Medicine via hwreesink@gmail.com. Full details and application/nomination forms for all other awards can be found on the ISBT website.

N.B. applications for Travel Fellowships, including Harold Gunson and a new category of ‘’Exceptional Abstract’’ will open November 10, 2025, and close February 17, 2026 (in line with abstract submission for the 39th International Congress of the ISBT in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).

ISBT Presidential Award

The Foundation Transfusion Medicine grants this awad to a senior person who has made eminent contributions to transfusion medicine or a related field through original basic or applied research, the practice of transfusion therapy or through significant educational and/or service contribution to the field. All ISBT members are invited to propose candidates for the ISBT Presidential Award for the ISBT Presidential Award 2026, to be given at the 39th International Congress of the ISBT in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A short curriculum vitae of the proposed candidate and a description of their contribution in transfusion medicine, accompanied with three signatures of ISBT members who support the nomination, should be sent to the Secretary-General of the Foundation, Henk Reesink, email hwreesink@gmail.com by December 14, 2025. A Committee (consisting of the ISBT President, the ISBT President-Elect, the Scientific Officer of the ISBT, the Chairman, and a member of Board of the Foundation Transfusion Medicine) will decide on the successful nominee.

Judith Chapman Award Recipient 2024: Beukou Fonkou Hygin Steve

Judith Chapman Award The Judith Chapman Award was established in 2023 in honour of the Society's first Executive Director, reflecting her passion for supporting people in their professional development, in particular the fields of leadership and management. The award is in the form of a scholarship to undertake a leadership or management course (up to 7500 Euro) and funding to attend the 39th International Congress in Kuala Lumpur where the award will be presented at the opening ceremony. Transfusion professionals in a leadership role at an early stage of their career (5-10 years experience) are eligible for nomination by an ISBT member. Nominees do not need ISBT members at the time of their nomination. Jean Julliard Prize The Jean Julliard Prize was established in 1962 in memory of the Society's first Secretary General and is awarded biennially at ISBT International Congresses for early career individual achievement in transfusion medicine research and excellent recently published scientific work. Applications are open to ISBT members and non-members who are, at the time of submission of their manuscripts, no more than 40 years of age or over 40 but at an early career stage, i.e. within five years of post-graduate qualification. The successful candidate must give a presentation on their submission during the congress in the session at which the prize (5000 Euro) is also awarded. Travel, registration, and accommodation costs for the congress are provided. Ravi Reddy Award This award (formerly known as the ISBT Award for Developing Countries) has been renamed the Ravi Reddy Award in 2026 in honour of Ravi Reddy, a past ISBT President, Chair of the ISBT Foundation and long-term advocate for advancement of blood services in resource limited settings. Applications are invited from blood services/centres operating in a low or lower-middle-income Countries (as defined by the World bank Index), that have made a significant contribution to strengthening blood transfusion practice within the country. The award is given to an organisation rather than to an individual , and includes full sponsorship (airfares, registration, accommodation) for two delegates from the winning institution to attend the ISBT congress in KL, and sponsorship of an education symposium in the country of the winning applicant (value €10,000).
