ISBT Awards presented at Blood 2025 & ISBT Perth

Two ISBT Awards were presented last week during the 36th Regional Congress of the ISBT in Perth, Australia. The ISBT Award is granted to individuals or organisations/teams who have contributed significantly to ISBT, and to the fields of transfusion medicine and science. Nominations are invited from the ISBT Board members and the decision to grant the awards made by the Executive Committee. This is the first time since 2014 that an ISBT award has been made to a team or organisation. Congratulations to the Transfusion Evidence Round-Up Team from ISBT and SRI, represented in Perth by Erica Wood and Allsion Mo, and to Clive Seed on his individual ISBT Award.

Clive Seed

Clive Seed BSc., PhD (DIST) This award is in recognition of many significant contributions to transfusion medicine and blood safety, education and mentoring. These include leadership in the ISBT Transfusion Transmitted Infectious Diseases Working Party, editorial work with Vox Sanguinis, and groundbreaking research in risk modelling and transfusion-transmissible infections. This work has influenced clinical practice and donor policies worldwide, and shaped evidence-based approaches to HIV risk, donor deferrals, and transfusion safety frameworks in Australia and beyond.

The ISBT-SRI Transfusion Evidence Round-Up Team

This award is in recognition of the achievements of the team in developing and leading the Transfusion Evidence Round-Up, a widely valued initiative allowing transfusion medicine professionals to access, interpret, and share scientific knowledge. Curating and disseminating important transfusion medicine literature through quarterly summaries, webinars, congress workshops, and engaging podcasts has amplified access to evidence-based practice for thousands of colleagues worldwide. The collaborative approach, involving ISBT members globally, exemplifies ISBT’s mission of sharing knowledge to enhance transfusion practice. The Round-Up has created meaningful opportunities for education, professional engagement, and international collaboration.
